PROPERTY:
The 5000-hectare working farm Doornbosch Estate & Guesthouses, is located in the Western Cape, South Africa, and is home to natural Fynbos, Proteas, organic honey cultivation, horses, wild game, farm animals, birds, hiking- and biking trails, as well as fresh water dams. With the ocean as well as picturesque Wine Estates situated around the corner
HISTORY:
After the Doornbosch Estate & Guesthouses change in ownership in 2002, the now standing guesthouses were built on existing ruins of the old farm cottages. The splendour of the old Cape Dutch era was revived during the first renovation, and the remodelling of the Doornbosch House the former farmhouse, using local materials and the expertise of local craftsmen.
EACH ACCOMODATION OFFERS:
A fully equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms with en-suite baths and rain showers, a charming living area with fireplace and dining area, a private terrace with outdoor fireplace, braai facility and sun beds. All our guests have access to the beautiful outdoor pool, private secure parking, the vegetable garden (vegetables depend on season) and to hiking and biking trails.
SUSTAINABILITY:
Transforming the ruins of the old houses into the luxurious holiday homes of Doornbosch Estate & Guesthouses, we have also created new permanent jobs on the farm. We farm sustainably and put great love and care into our organic produce. Because of this, everyone at Doornbosch Estate & Guesthouses gives you a warm welcome. Our hearty country breakfast basket includes organic farm eggs, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, seasonal fruit, fruit juice, yoghurt, muesli, bread and butter.
Basket is R 160 per person per day. Please request your breakfast basket when booking your accommodation.
We provide coffee and tea, fresh milk, sugar, salt, pepper, oil and vinegar in each house.
We stock bottled water and soft drinks upon arrival in the fridge. You pay what you consume when checking out. Please check the price list in the house.
Our tap water comes from a natural mountain spring on Doornbosch Estate & Guesthouses. The water is potable and chlorine free.
Our 200 beehives are positioned at the best spots for our bees to collect pollen and nectar from indigenous Fynbos, Eucalyptus trees and wild flowers. Our honey is the only EU certified honey in the Western Cape. Glasses of 500g sell for R120 make a wonderful souvenir.
We sell fresh organic farm eggs. At R60 per dozen.
Our gardener, Norman, cultivates our vegetable garden with love and care. He will show you regional produce and, if available, you can purchase a few veggies and herbs.
Availability depends on the season and the water situation.
All houses have a private indoor and outdoor fireplace.
Firewood – a 30kg bag and fire starters are provided for each house upon arrival.
Braais/Barbeques ONLY in the outdoor fireplace.
OTHER OPEN FIRES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
All rides take place in open country on the farm. Horses are available for beginners and accomplished riders. Maximum weight 100kg. All rides take place at own risk.
2 hour cross-country ride R800 per person.
